  • After a disaster nearly everything in your home can be damaged.
  • One of the most damaged items can be paper documents.
  • Restoring your paper documents alone is very difficult.
  • Call us today for help with your documents

Description

Almost all residential and business water damage cleanups will involve some sort of wet document restoration. The deterioration of paper items happens almost immediately and it’s necessary to begin a drying procedure to stabilize these items. The water damaged documents need to quickly be assessed and formulate a course of action and what type of procedure to follow. At the state of the art facilities that utilize special drying and cleaning chambers give the greatest chances for a complete restoration. Precious family possessions and priceless materials such as microfilm, x-rays and visual/audio media materials might be restored at the location of the water damage or if further care needs to be taken, they will be inventoried and transported to a document restoration facility. Depending on the situation basic dehumidification or freeze drying techniques may be used; the Safedry certified technician has the training and experience to make the right choice.

Symptoms

Water damage situations that have required large number of documents needing restoration have been floods that have involved city, county, state and federal offices. Other times there have been larger private sector businesses such as retail stores, hospitals, warehouses and factories. Safedry companies have successfully restored hundreds of thousands of documents that have been from fire damage and water damage locations.

Causes

The most common causes for a wet document restoration are floods or some other kind of water damage. From time to time there are homes or businesses that sustain a fire damage and the paper materials are in need of special cleaning and restoring. Very seldom is there a situation where a museum has some sort of catastrophe that requires a painting or other piece of art to be restored, but the Safedry teams can handle any disaster.

Procedure / Solutions

After a Safedry team member is dispatched, the certified technician will begin to make an extensive inventory of all of the water damaged documents. They will determine the proper drying technique and decide upon the best location, either on the spot or back at the document storage facility. If the water damage is very severe freeze drying may be the best option to ensure a more thorough restoration process.

Cost

The cost could vary dramatically depending on the degree of water damage or fire damage, and the method of drying out the documents or other materials. The Safedry affiliated companies have been trained to give the most precise and competitive estimates possible.

Tips / Prevention

Drying documents and other precious materials properly requires years of experience and special techniques and equipment. One should never attempt to recover water damaged items on their own, let alone it may not be safe health wise because of the risk of bacteria or contamination.

Comments

Having the access of the very best technicians and associate companies is a huge advantage. Safedry has the ability to select the firms with experience in certain areas of expertise and equipment. If the extent of water damage was so massive that one company drying facility was completely filled another company could be called in to help out.
