Be prepared to evacuate, make sure to fuel your car and analyze your evacuation routes. If ordered, turn off your utilities at the main valves.
  3. Evacuate as far as possible to an inland location if local authorities proclaim an evacuation and you live in that evacuation zone. You should evacuate if you live in a mobile home or temporary structure - they are predominately hazardous during Tropical Storm Damage. You should evacuate if you live on the coast, in a flood plain that's near a river or inland waterway or any time you feel you are in danger. When the authorities order you to evacuate, you must leave immediately to escape being stranded by flooded roads and fallen trees. You must always follow the evacuation routes broadcast by local authorities via radio and television programming.
  4. Stay clear from all coastal areas, river banks and streams until the possibility of flooding is past and tell others where you are going. If you are not forced to evacuate, stay indoors during the tropical storm and away from your windows. Do not be fooled if there is a calm, it could be just the eye of the storm and the winds will pick up again. Listen to your radio or television for the latest information. Try not to use the telephone accepting for serious emergencies. So what should you do after a Tropical Storm Damage? Just stay where you are if you are in a safe position until local experts say it is okay to leave.
