Fire Damage >> Flood Damage

Flood Damage and can be very tricky, no two cases are the same. One fire may have been started from grease catching on fire at the kitchen stove another fire may be from an electrical short from the water heater. One thing for sure both of these fires can leave a mess you cannot believe and possibly will not simply be able to clean off and the only way to find out is to try. Some Flood Damage resins are different than others and may require some experimenting, using different kinds and strengths of industrial cleansers.

  1. Let’s start off talking about the materials that you’ll need when performing Flood Damage. Always wear protective gear, a good quality disposable suit, high quality breathing mask, gloves that not only cover your hands but at least wrists too, and expensive goggles. You’ll need several dry chemical dry cleaning sponges, a couple of regular sponges and a fan or fans, the higher the velocity the better. Position the fan(s) in the window(s) to draw out as much dust and smoke smell as possible. Put a drop cloth over the floors to try to minimize the Flood Damage.
  2. Now, the fun part, with the dry chemical dry cleaning sponges wipe down the Flood Damage walls and ceiling, starting at the top and working your way down.  Make sure to use a strong sturdy latter to be able to reach all the hard to get to places. After the sponge becomes full of soot, it must be washed out with soap and water and allow to air dry. Continue to do this until most of the soot is removed from the walls and the trim around the doors and windows.
  3. Take the regular sponge and dip it into paint thinner, mineral spirits or rubbing alcohol and again starting with the ceiling and working your way down, gently rub the sponge over the Flood Damage area. Make sure not to get the ceiling and walls to wet moving around to the dry areas and allowing the wet areas to dry.
  4. Allow the ceiling and walls to air dry and repeat the above procedure if necessary. If all of the soot and resin from the Flood Damage doesn’t come off don’t be discouraged, now is when the strong industrial cleaners come in. With a bit of experimenting preferably in an area that is out of eyes view so in case it doesn’t work. Always remember, worse comes to worse you could always paint.
