Fire Damage >> Mold Remediation

After there is a fire and the Mold Remediation building has become saturated with water, then the presence of mold has become a major area of concern related to health in our indoor environment. Molds can be an important part of the natural environment and they have been around since the beginning of time. They are to be classified as part of the kingdom of natural fungi being neither plant nor animal but a little of both.

  1. Their main role is to decompose dead organic matter like fallen trees and dead leaves. There are approximately 150,000 kinds of molds and they are present everywhere in our indoor and outdoor environment. These molds reproduce by means of tiny spores, which can grow where there is a sufficient amount of moisture and food, like organic materials such as paper, wood, and cellulose. In our indoor environment, the mold growth is a symptom of a Mold Remediation problem. It could cause structural damage by decomposing wood, drywall, carpeting and other fire damaged building materials.
  2. Professional cleaners or Mold Remediation restoration companies may use methods that are not covered in this publication. Please note that mold damage may cause staining and other cosmetic damage. It might not be possible to clean some items so that its original appearance is completely restored. While much has been written about mold damage cleanup, the simplest advice is still the best, if you can control the moisture you will control mold. Without the moisture, mold will not be able to grow. With a sufficient amount of moisture, mold will keep coming back no matter how many times it has been cleaned up. First, you must stop the mold growth by finding and repairing the means of the excess moisture.
  3. Fix all of the plumbing leaks, roof leak, flooding, a large spill or any high relative humidity. Dry all water damaged items within 24-48 hours, Mold Remediation porous items like drywall, ceiling tiles, carpeting, padding, books, clothing and other paper or water damaged cloth materials soak up moisture.  All items that are not dried quickly shall be discarded if they show signs of mold or water damage. If the Mold Remediation was from a sewage backup or fire damage, the items should probably be discarded. Scrub the mold off of hard surfaces with a mild detergent and water, then dry.
  4.  If the water damage was due to a sewer backup or fire damage, use a diluted household bleach mixture of 1 part bleach to 10 parts water. Avoid breathing the chlorine fumes, getting it on your skin, or in your eyes. Do not paint over or caulk on moldy surfaces, always clean up the mold and dry the surfaces thoroughly before painting. Paint that is applied over moldy surfaces is very likely to peel. If the moldy water damaged area is localized to one room or a section of a room, you could choose to isolate the   by placing heavy plastic sheeting over the door to help keep airborne mold spores from circulating through the entire Mold Remediation house.
