  1. Floodwater is highly infected, do not eat or drink anything the floodwater has touched, just throw it out. Stay on the solid ground, as building structures that are still standing might fall in on you or collapse under you. Water Extraction could eat away at the roads and sidewalks. Watch for indications of frostbite, like numbness and loss of color in your toes, fingers, nose, or ear lobes and hypothermia, when your body temperature drops extremely low. Get medical assistance immediately. Warm the individual gently and wrap them in blankets, but don’t rub the hands, arms, or legs, and don’t attempt to warm them up with coffee, tea, or alcohol.
  2. These could really do more harm than good. Contamination-carrying animals and poisonous snakes might also find themselves without a home. Avoid putting your hands or feet under Water Extraction debris where an animal might be hiding and wear boots and long, heavy pants when clearing out fallen trees and debris. Tune in to your radio or TV for reports to be alerted if a thunderstorm, hurricane, or Water Extraction is likely to strike again. Inappropriately, natural disasters could bring out looters and con artists. Be wary, and luck out for elderly neighbors who might be easily taken advantage of.
  3. Be careful of people who say they want to help if you don’t know them and they aren’t part of an identifiable society, particularly if they offer to come into your home. If your home is sacked, notify the authorities immediately. You might need that police statement to file an insurance claim. Keep an eye on your children all of the time. Besides from all the Water Extraction hazards listed above, hazardous items in your home, like cleaners, medications, or sharp knives, might have fallen out of their usual places and could get into little children’s hands. There are regional, national, and federal organizations that offer assistance during emergencies and natural disasters, like the American Red Cross, contact your local chapter.
  4. The Small Business Administration, check for the number in your local phone directory. The Salvation Army -- check for the number in your local telephone directory. A natural disaster recovery center might be established in or near your community that was affected by the Water Extraction natural disaster. There you could meet with elected representatives of federal, state, local, and certain volunteer agencies. Local churches, helpful service organizations, like the Kiwanis Club, Lions, or Knights of Columbus, large local employers, and local newspapers and banks might offer assistance.
