The asbestos awareness training that is provided by OSHA is for workers in a number of different industries, including the construction industry to gain knowledge about the risks of Asbestos Abatement Training. This training follows the Environmental Protection Agency's model accreditation plan. It consists of four days of instruction and also a minimum of 14 hours of hands-on training. At the end of this course the workers are tested with the final exam. There is an additional eight hour training course held annually.
  3. Training class number two conducted by OSHA covers the Asbestos Abatement Training in non-thermal system installation like tile, wallboard and roofing shingles. There are several concepts covered including asbestos identification, protective coverings and the health effects. In the content of this material and the asbestos standard requirements are taught, along with how to post labels and signs from smoking programs. This training requires a minimum of eight hours of instruction with hands-on training.
  4. Training class number three goes over the maintenance operations and repair and areas where asbestos containing material and presumed asbestos containing material will be found and possibly damaged. This training course covers all of the concepts from class number two more in-depth, but also touches on where the different types of Asbestos Abatement Training are located and damage recognition. This training course last for at least 16 hours with a combination of class instruction and hands-on training. There is a required annual course.
  5. Training class number four primarily deals with the cleanup of Asbestos Abatement Training or the removal of dust and other waste, that are related to classes one through three activities but does not perform the removal of asbestos. This class deals with the identification of asbestos damage and how to avoid exposure. The class last for two hours and is an annual makeup class required.
