Most people would not think about their shower leaking. BUT if you have tile shower and do not routinely seal it (suggested by label on sealer) moisture or water will get thru the grout and cause Mold Mitigation. Also if you natural stone in the shower or water areas then it too must be seal to prevent moisture or water from seeping thru the stone (stone is porous unlike baked tiles).

  1. If so try to determine what is leaking (this might not be easy as one thinks) and if you can't then you will want to call a professional plumber. If the weather allows, you could also open your windows and set up your fans to remove any excess Mold Mitigation moisture. When the carpeting is completely dry, vacuum, shampoo, and repeat the drying procedure. Keep in mind that most present carpet is constructed of nylon and must not be treated with household bleach. If a nasty, musty smell persists, sprinkle some baking soda over the dry carpeting, working it in with a broom or mop.
  2. Allow the baking soda to remain in overnight, then completely vacuum the carpet to remove the soda residue. If any of your appliances were exposed to the Mold Mitigation floodwater, they must not be ran until they have been checked out by an expert service person. They need to check out the appliance wiring and switches and be sure the motor is in safe operating order.  They might need to refurbish or replace any damaged electrical motors or spray rust inhibitor to all internal metal parts. Even if an Mold Mitigation appliance has not come in contact with floodwaters, rust could happen from the moisture in the air.
  3. With your refrigerators and freezers, if the flood water has seeped in, then all of your shelves, crispers, and ice trays must be removed, washed thoroughly with water and detergent, rinsed with a disinfectant mixture of ¾ cups bleach to one gallon of water. Wash the inside of the refrigerator or freezer with hot water and baking soda, followed up by a sanitized mixture. Wash the entire outside with a mild cleanser and hot water. After sanitizing the Mold Mitigation, leave the door open for about half an hour for the air to circulate. If any odor continues, place a piece of charcoal in an open metal container inside the closed fridge or use a commercial grade deodorizer.
  4. With your laundry equipment, be sure to unplug your dryer and wipe the inside drum and door with a clean cloth dipped in sanitizing solution. Rinse with a clean cloth dipped in clean tap water. Allow the dryer door to remain open until all the inside parts are thoroughly dry, if possible overnight. Pour a sanitizer, such as household bleach, into your empty washing machine. Then run a 15-minute cycle on the Â"hot” water setting. Depending on the quantity of Mold Mitigation, determining which furniture to salvage might be more of a personal preference, particularly if you have a lot of antiques or sentimental pieces.
