Mold Remediation >> Water Extraction

Water Extraction is a natural bacterial component to our environment. It is essentially in the breaking down of dead organic materials (plants and trees and such) in nature.. BUT we do not want these to be present in our homes as some of them have potential to be harmful to our health. Mold starts as a spore that is light enough to be carried great distances by the natural flow of air.

  1. Mold spores are not limited to the outdoors as we have air flow in our homes and offices. These Water Extraction spores float along and are not a problem until they come in contact with a source to nurture their growth into a full blow mold. NO mold spore will grow to MOLD without the presence of water or moisture. So now we know a little about mold. How do we keep mold spores from growing in our home? Because we know they are everywhere. Best advice I could find in my research is to keep places where you use or get water from DRY!
  2. That being said I know it is hard to keep everything in your home dry and moisture free. There are main place to look for signs of Water Extraction moisture or water. The first place clean water usually enters the home is the water heater/ softener. Check the top of the water heater for corroded lines, this maybe a sign that water is or has been leaking. Also around the bottom of the water heater to see if possible the clean out or liner has a leak. And since these are usually place in garage or basements or outside rooms it is a place not often checked.
  3. So when we do discover Water Extraction they have been leaking, it is usually after they have leaked for an extended period. The long it goes un-noticed the better chance for the mold spore to take hold and grow. If you notice water around these areas it is advised to call a professional plumber. Another hidden place most often not checked is the roof/ attic (some homes have plumbing in the attic). If you have access to the underside of your roof (attic or crawl space) it is advised to check from time to time to see if there maybe is a Water Extraction leak.
  4. Often (like in arid zones) you get some rain but not enough to soak thru to the ceiling and let one know their roof leaks. The dry air will not allow it to reach the ceiling. In wet area of the country it is possible to have a roof (or attic plumbing) leak and run down the walls for years before the damage reaches the interior. So you may not see it till it is too late and as we have learned mold likes moisture and water. The obvious are the sinks in the home. Look in the bottom of the cabinets to see if there is any Water Extraction moisture/water.
