Radon Mitigation >> Radon Gas Removal

Radon Gas Removal is an invisible gas, has no color, no odor and it has no taste. It naturally occurs in all soil types and can enter your home even through solid concrete. It has been around for millions of years and will be around for millions more. The exposure of high concentrations of the radioactive radon gas after a long-term could cause lung cancer. As a matter of fact, radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer behind cigarette smoking. The key is to get rid of the Radon Gas Removal.

  1. The first step is to test the level of radon gas in your home, the Environmental Protection Agency suggests the level of radon should not be 4 pCi/L or above. If that level of radon gas is in your home then a Radon Gas Removal should be done. There are several different systems available, the question is deciding on which system that might be right for you. One way is to redirect the Radon Gas Removal from your house outside into the atmosphere. How this is done is by drilling a hole through the basement floor of your home or just through the floor if there is no basement. Putting a piece of PVC pipe into the hole, take the end of the pipe and put it on the floor, with a marker  draw a circle around the pipe. If you don't have a drill bit big enough or you don't want to buy one, use a smaller bit and make a series of holes following your circle.
  2. Break the concrete on the whole using a hammer and chisel or preferably a jackhammer. Make sure the pipe will fit in the hole, dig down about twenty inches and also a pit about 20 inches in diameter removing all of the dirt from the hole. Stick the end of the pipe and the hole and seal around it using hydraulic cement, then run the pipe up through each floor and through the attic and out of the roof. Of course Radon Gas Removal requires some creativity could come into play, you don't want your pipe going through the middle of your kitchen or living room. If possible run the pipe on the outside of an exterior wall, securing it every few feet.
  3. Connect an electric fan in the attic to the PVC pipe and run the rest of the pipe through the roof the fan will draw any Radon Gas Removal through the roof out into the atmosphere. The pipe needs to be extended at least 1 foot above the roof of your house. A system monitor gauge or manometer needs to be installed in the basement to display the level of air pressure inside the pipe this will show that the system is working properly and ridding your home of Radon Gas Removal.
  4. Periodically test for any levels of radon gas in your home, make sure the test kit you buy is good quality. It may be a good idea to perform a long-term test. These test kits are available online.
