  1. Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas produced by the breakdown of thorium and uranium in the soil, rock, and water.   4.  When you are ready to test your own home, contact your local radon office for information on locating qualified test kits and qualified radon gas testers. You could also order the test kits and obtain important information from the radon hotline.
