In homes that have a basement or a slab-on-grade foundation, Structural Drying is usually reduced by one of four kinds of soil depressurization: sub slab depressurization, drain tile depressurization, sump hole depressurization, or block wall depressurization.
Active sub slab depressurization (also called sub slab depressurization) is the most widely used and normally the most dependable radon reduction technique.

  1. Depressurization tubes are put in, through the concrete slab into the crushed rock or ground underneath. Structural Drying also might be put in below the concrete floor from outside the home. Passive sub slab depressurization is the same as active sub slab depressurization but it depends on air flows instead of a fan to draw the radon gas up from below the home. Passive sub slab depressurization is normally not as efficient in minimizing high radon gases as active sub slab depressurization. In homes that have crawlspaces, Structural Drying gases could sometimes be reduced by merely ventilating the crawlspace without the utilization of a fan or actively, meaning with the use of a fan.
  3. Crawlspace aeration will lower the indoor radon gases both by minimizing the home's depressurization on the soil and by reducing the radon gas beneath your home. Regular aeration in a crawlspace is accomplished by opening the outside vents, or installing more vents. Active ventilation uses a fan to blow Structural Drying through the crawlspace instead of trusting on regular air flow. Most of these techniques are thought to be either temporary measures, or only a partial remedy to be used in conjunction with other techniques. Sealing cracks and other apertures in the foundation is a general part of many methods to Structural Drying mitigation.
  4. Sealing will do two things, it will limit the amount of radon gas into your house and it minimizes the loss of air conditioning, and that way creating other radon mitigation methods more efficient and cost-effective. It is hard to recognize and eternally seal the locations where radon gas is coming in. Home depressurization uses a delivery fan to blow air into the basement or lower living area from either upstairs or outside. The efficiency of this method is restricted by your home’s construction, the climate, other devices in your home, and resident lifestyle. In order to continue enough pressure to keep the Structural Drying gas out, the doors and windows at the lowest area should not be left ajar, except for normal coming in or going out. Some natural aeration happens in all homes. By opening up your windows, doors, and outside vents on the lower floors you will increase the aeration in your home.
