I discovered Smoke Damage after the tenants moved out. Smoke damage does not always have to result from having a fire in your home. My tenants moved out and I did not realize how serious their cigarette smoking addiction was. Upon walking into the rental the smell was obvious and the yellow discoloration on the walls was to. I am sure that the carpets drapes and everything have been ruined but how do I know.

  1. In a case like this your best bet is to call a professional restoration company as they will know how to get the smell out and how to clean your Smoke Damage walls so that they can be repainted. They will also know the best way to deal with your insurance company, so let them call your company before you do anything. I know from experience just painting over the walls will not cure this problem. Since it is a rental and the landlord is responsible for providing a habitable environment, it would be in your best interest to hire a professional. You never know what type of tenant you're going to get for the next rental.
  2. You may get someone who would put up with the smell that Smoke Damage, and then again you might get somebody who's really picky. So to save yourself the trouble it's always best to hire a professional. Inadequate study to imply that such expensive development yield enough influence to validate huge prices.
