Asbestos Abatement >> Removing Chrysotile Asbestos

About 95% of the asbestos used in the United States ischrysotile, it shows up in many different forms, manufactured into many different items. Some of the more common ones include insulation and popcorn ceiling, also it has been made into floor tile. Because of the many health risks Removing Chrysotile Asbestos done by professionals can run into a considerable amount of money. If a person is thinking about removing the asbestos themselves there are some considerations.

  1. If you're not quite sure what type of material that was used on your ceiling or floor, probably should have a test taken before you Removing Chrysotile Asbestos. You cannot be too careful and every precaution taken could pay dividends down the road. I would recommend putting on a disposable protective suit, covering your head with some sort of hood, and not leaving any part of your skin exposed. Wearing a good quality air respirator and eye protection.
  2. Put on a sheet of plastic on the floor, spray an area of your popcorn ceiling with water. Make sure all of your windows are closed, air conditioning or heat off before you Removing Chrysotile Asbestos, hold a tray under the area and scrape some of the popcorn ceiling onto the tray. Put that sample into a double sealed bag and send it to a local laboratory. You can usually find the laboratory in the phone book under asbestos testing.
  3. If the test comes back positive, you want to confine that room using plastic sheeting, creating a situation that no asbestos particles can escape. Make sure all of your windows are shut and the heating and air-conditioning unit is shut off before you start Removing Chrysotile Asbestos. Hang plastic sheeting on the walls about 1 inch below the ceiling using masking tape and or a stapler. Make sure the floor is entirely covered again using plastic sheets. Allow the plastic from the wall to overlap the sheet on the floor. Put back on your protective gear, your head protection and your eye goggles.
  4. Mix one cup of detergent for every five gallons water put this into a spray bottle and spray the mixture on the ceiling until it is thoroughly saturated. Wait for about fifteen to twenty minutes to allow the water mixture to completely soak in. Using a putty knife that's about six inches wide start your Removing Chrysotile Asbestos by scraping the asbestos from the ceiling. The asbestos should come off in big chunks indicating that it's wet enough. If the ceiling is not wet enough the asbestos will come off in dust and small wood particles making it an extremely dangerous situation.
  5. Make sure that you don't scrape with your putty knife to deep and gouge the drywall leaving big holes in it after all of the big chunks of asbestos are off the ceiling. Then you can continue to Removing Chrysotile Asbestos using your water- detergent mixture washing any loose pieces of asbestos from the ceiling. After you're done cleanup by removing the plastic sheets and your protective close disposing of them properly.
