Did you know the average residential house loses 14% of the water delivered to leaks? In an average home, 22 gallons of water are lost to leakage every day, and the usual suspects are leaking toilets or dripping faucets. This daily leakage amount is about equal to the amount of drinking water a family of 3 requires for 2 full weeks. Some Water Removal leaks in more dramatic incidents can be costly though. Extra water extraction is necessary as the starting point of the water restoration procedures.

  1. Extraction of extra water might be gained by physical means such as mopping or soaking the extra moisture from hard surfaces or furnishings. However, Water Removal generally involve the use of more sophisticated techniques and devices such as pumps, or specially created commercial water extraction equipment. Once extra water is extracted, remaining water should be changed from a liquid to a vapor by promoting water extraction. Usually, this is achieved efficiently with specialized ventilation devices. Once moisture is extracted from structural materials and contents into the air, the moisture should be extracted from the air through dehumidification, or it should be externally dispersed.
  2. Failure to dehumidify might result in substantial secondary water damage and present a significant health hazard. Both extraction and dehumidification are greatly improved by controlling the temperature in an enclosed environment. Also, bacteria growth is temperature and Water Removal related. Thus, temperature change and control is an important basic principle for safe, efficient water extraction. The damaged structure should be monitored starting with the first assessment and evaluation, and continued through the restoration process.
  3. Observing Water Removal procedures might include, but are not exclusive to the following: temperature and moisture readings; updating extraction progress status; and checking the humidity content of structural wood and other materials with a humidity meter. When applicable, observing also should include checking devices operation, labor progress and interior environment quality. Drying standards have been created and are presented in other publications. Waste that begins in the erected milieu is deposited or flows past the confines of the edifice's disposal systems. In that instance, there is smaller or confined flooding, but water and waste entered the structure and furniture of the edifice.
  4. For example, flooding happens in a men's lavatory of an office edifice, water flows under the wall, and into the carpet of the adjacent hallway. In that instance, there is a smaller amount of Water Removal waste that is confined to a relatively small sector of the edifice, but it enters parts of the milieu that have complex surfaces and are difficult to extract water from. Waste that began in the erected milieu, along with other wastes from the main line of the sewage systems, are backed up into the immediate milieu, where the waste is broadly spread and enters both the structure and its furniture. In that situation, there is extensive hazard because humans could be exposed to pathogenic raw wastes that have entered and become contained by the edifice and its Water Removal furniture.
