Wind Damage >> Monsoon Damage

In gabled tops, truss bracing generally consists of 2x4s that run the length of the top. If you do not really have truss bracing, it shall be replaced. You could do some of this yourself or hire a professional Monsoon Damage contractor. Place 2x4s the length of your top, overlapping the ends of the 2x4s across the two trusses. Braces shall be placed 18 inches from the ridge, in the middle span, and at the bottom, with 8 to 10 feet between the braces.

  1. Utilize two 3-inch, 14-gauge wooden screws or two 16d (16 penny) coated common spikes at every Monsoon Damage truss. Because spaces in attics are generally limited, screws might be easier to replace. Gable end bracing consists of 2x4s spots in an “X” pattern from the top middle of the gable to the bottom middle brace of the fourth truss, and from the bottom middle of the gable to the top middle brace of the fourth truss. Use two 3-inches, 14-gauge wood screws or two 16d coated common spikes to attach the 2´4s to the gable and to every of the four trusses.
  2. There are many different types of top designs. Regardless of your type of top, Monsoon Damage straps are designed to help hold your top to the edges. While you are in the attic, inspect for typhoon straps of coated metal. Typhoon straps might be difficult for homeowners to place. You might require calling a professional to retrofit your house with typhoon straps. Check with the local government construction officials to see if Monsoon Damage straps are required in your vicinity. The outside edges, doors, and windows are the protective shell of your house.
  3. If your house’s protective shell is broken, high wind damage could enter and put pressure on your top and edges, causing Monsoon Damage. You could guard your house by strengthening your doors and windows. Many double doors had an active and an inactive or fixed door. Check to see how the fixed door is secured at the top and/or the bottom. The bolts or pins that secure many doors are not strong adequate. Some door makers provide reinforcing bolt packs made specifically for their doors. Check with your local construction supplies retailer to find out what type of bolt systems will labor for your doors.
  4. The door bolts materials shall cost from $10 to $40, depending on the type and finish. Doors with a window will require an additional protection from flying debris. See the sections on wind damage shutters for how to guard your windows. Double-wide (two-car) garage doors could present an issue during typhoons because they are so big that they wobble as the high winds blow and could pull out of their tracks or cave in from wind damage pressure. If garage doors fail, high Monsoon Damage could enter your house through the garage and blow down doors, windows, edges, and even the top.
