Water Damage caused by severe weather, documentation is crucial in most insurance claims. These typically involve owners of homes trying to document damage to cars or houses caused by hail. However, storm damage reports are limited usually to the more spectacular incidents. Moreover, the amount of time in between the incident and the official reports being released to the public could be up to a couple of months.

  1. The official documented Water Damage findings are generally collected by the local National Weather Service (NWS) offices from their own official documentation, media accounts, and reports from local agencies. Once gathered, they are sent on for archiving at the National Climatic Data Center in their monthly report called Storm Data. The former decade in the United States was signified by an extreme destruction in properties caused by wind damage, creating in the process, a gigantic awareness to the two causes of wind damage reduction and wind estimation. This article professes a novel approach to thunderstorm wind damage estimation using the concept of wind damage bands.
  2. The Water Damage band prediction methodology employs an objective weighting technique driven by building component cost factors, component fragilities, and location parameters to obtain upper and lower bounds to building damage thresholds. Damage bands are developed for 1}3 story (low-rise) buildings as well as 4}10 story (mid-rise) buildings. The damage bands reveal that the wind damage response of individual 1}3 story buildings is most easily distinguished in the 43}60 m/s (sustained one-min mean) wind regime and that above 73 m/s sustained one-minute Water Damage speed, 1}3 story buildings experience near-total destruction of their superstructures, with the damage response of the most wind-resistant and least wind-resistant building approaching each other.
  3. In contrast, the Water Damage response of individual mid-rise buildings is most easily distinguished in the 60}81 m/s wind regime, and continues to depend largely upon the components and connections. Wind damage bands form the basis for novel methods of wind damage prediction of individual buildings and groups of buildings, wind damage mitigation, and emergency management planning. Snapped branches generally don’t affect plant life unless more than half of the foliage is involved. These branches centrally quickly so they cannot become a risk and to decrease the chance of rot things encroaching the wounds.
  4. Create sure to place an impact resistant system on sliding glass doors because they are bigger and more vulnerable to wind and debris than windows. If these doors cannot be replaced, then at the very least place shutters. While usually smaller and not as common, tornadoes occurring west of the Rocky Mountains of the United States also cause Water Damage and threaten lives annually. While some tornadoes could be highly destructive and are potentially deadly, timely precautions could save lives and reduce wind damage.  During active weather seasons, stay alert of the forecast by listening to radio or television or by utilizing an NOAA Weather Radio. Contact the local National Weather Service (NWS) office, Federal Emergency Management Agency, or American Red Cross for more information about your risk of tornadoes.
