All renters who live in Lead Disclosure buildings that were built before 1978 must be provided two copies of the Tenant Lead Law Notification and Tenant Certification Form. If any of the following official papers exist for the rental, renters must also be provided a copy of those as well. Lead examination or danger assessment report, a Letter of Compliance, and a Letter of Interim Control. 

When do landlords have to give renters these forms? Starting September 1, 2011, all new renters must be provided the forms before going into the rental agreement. Current renters must be provided the Lead Disclosure forms within the one-year period starting December 1, 2011 at the time of lease agreement renewal, or if there is no contract, any time during that year. 

This has to be done no later than December 1, 2012. You might ask what lead poisoning is, and how do kids become lead poisoned. Plain and simple lead poisoning is considered a disease. Lead could make kids, Lead Disclosure particularly those under six years old, very sick and also could cause learning and behavior issues.

Lead is often found in house paint on the inside and outside of houses. The main way a youngster could get lead poisoned is from swallowing lead house paint dust and chips. A kid could also get lead from other Lead Disclosure sources like soil and water, but these infrequently cause lead poisoning by themselves. The only way to tell for sure that a kid is lead poisoned is to have their blood tested. 

Your physician, health care provider, or the Board of Health could also do this. A lead-poisoned kid will need immediate medical care. A residence with lead house paint must be Lead Disclosure for a lead-poisoned kid to get well. What could you do to avoid lead poisoning? Talk to your kid's physician about lead.

Have your kid tested for lead at least once a year until he/she is four years of age. Ask the landlord if your residence has been tested. Tell the landlord if you have a new baby, or if a new kid under six years old lives with you. If your residence was Lead Disclosure but has peeling house paint, tell and write the landlord. 

If your residence has not been tested, you could do some things to avoid temporarily the chances of your kid becoming lead poisoned. Clean your Lead Disclosure residence regularly to wipe up any dust and loose house paint chips. Use a cleaner called Tri-Sodium Phosphate or a commercial detergent that’s high in phosphate, or possibly some other cleaner made just for cleaning lead dust and paint chips.

The places to clean most often are your window wells, sills, and floors. Clean your kid's hands often, particularly before eating or sleeping and don’t forget your kid's toys. The only way to always lower the danger of your kid getting lead poisoned is to have your residence Lead Disclosure if it contains lead house paint. What does the Lead Law require the landlord of your residence to do if a kid under six years old lives there? 

A landlord of a residence built before 1978 must have the residence inspected for lead if a kid under six years old lives there. If lead dangers are discovered, it must be Lead Disclosure or brought under temporary control. A licensed lead removal company must do all removal of leaded house paint and all other high-danger work.

The landlord or someone who works for him like a handyman, who is not a licensed lead removal company, could do certain low-danger lead removal and temporary control work. After the Lead Disclosure work is done, the lead paint inspector or danger assessor releases a Letter of Compliance or Letter of Interim Control. 

The landlord must make sure there is no peeling house paint at any time after getting a Letter of Compliance or Letter of Interim Control. It is a legal letter that says that either there are no lead house paint dangers in the house or that the residence has been Lead Disclosure. The letter is then signed and dated by a licensed lead paint inspector.

If you think that your house has lead-based house paint dangers, you could take some urgent steps to lessen your family’s Lead Disclosure danger: If you rent, notify your landlord of peeling or chipping house paint. Keep house painted surfaces clean and free of dust. Clean your floors, window frames, window sills, and other surfaces weekly. 

Use a wet mop or sponge with warm water to Lead Disclosure and a general all-purpose detergent. You should never mix ammonia and bleach together because they could form a dangerous gas. Cautiously clean up house paint chips immediately without making dust. Completely rinse out sponges and mop heads often during cleaning of dirty or dusty areas, and again afterwards.

Thoroughly wash your hands and your kid’s hands often, particularly before they eat and before nap time and bed time. Keep all Lead Disclosure play areas clean and wash bottles, pacifiers, toys, and stuffed animals frequently. Keep kids from chewing on window sills or other house painted surfaces, or eating soil. When remodeling, repairing, or house painting, hire only EPA- or state approved Lead-Safe Certified renovation firms. 

Clean or remove your shoes before entering your residence to avoid tracking in lead from nearby soil. Make sure your kids eat nutritious, low-fat meals high in iron, and calcium, like spinach and dairy products. Kids with that eat good diets absorb less lead. Accidents, spills, leaks, and improper discarding and handling of Lead Disclosure hazardous materials and other toxic wastes have resulted in tens of thousands of polluted sites across the country. 

The nature of the pollutants and the dangers they present vary greatly from place to place. These pollutants include manufacturing solvents, petroleum products, metals, residuals from Lead Disclosure manufacturing procedures, pesticides, and radiological elements, as well as certain naturally occurring materials like asbestos. 

Polluted lands could jeopardize human health and the surroundings, in addition to obstructing economic growth and the vivacity of local communities. The presence of polluted soils in a specific area might or might not have health concerns. Lead Disclosure soils, unlike air and water, are not deliberately inhaled, absorbed, or ingested. 

Pollutants diffuse more slowly through soil than they do through air or water, so pollutants are rarely dispersed uniformly across a polluted site. Lead Disclosure soils are an issue if kids are playing, attending school, or residing on or near to polluted land. People and pets might track polluted soils and dusts into houses where infants and babies are playing. 

Some pollutants might harm or pass through the skin, and by handling or playing in soil, kids might come into direct contact with Lead Disclosure. Kids might consume soils through hand-to-mouth play or by eating without first cleaning their hands after having touched the polluted soil. Soil dust might be carried on the wind and breathed into the lungs, where it could be very damaging. 

The best approach to reducing the dangers to kids from polluted soils is to avoid these contacts. Also, polluted land might contribute to pollution of Lead Disclosure ground water, surface water, ambient air, and certain foods, creating other potential human contact routes. 

For instance, feasting of fish caught at or near a polluted site might increase danger of contact to pollutants from the site. The same could be true of drinking water from polluted ground- or surface water. When drinking water is affected at Lead Disclosure polluted sites, an alternate water supply might need to be offered, in some cases forever.
