Hoarding >> Compulsive Hoarding Restoration

As a technician from a local water restoration company I have seen many Compulsive Hoarding Restoration situations, some of them I am sure could classify as utterly amazing. Sometimes I think how can people live this way, but I obviously do not understand the way their mind thinks and how it processes the ability to have the desire to collect what I would consider completely useless items. I will try to relate on some of the conditions that I've seen in the processes that we have used to Compulsive Hoarding Restoration.

  1. I have gone into houses with concerned family members, trying to help the one they love, making some attempt to put their house back in order. Some of these houses were so cluttered and so filthy that I didn't think we could ever restore them back to their original state. And in some cases there had to be construction to rebuild walls that have had so much neglected mold and sometimes unidentifiable objects that they could not be removed using the normal steps of Compulsive Hoarding Restoration.
  2. There have been some homes, that are required several dumpsters to remove all of the items that these people considered them important enough to save. Some of these items were just typical garbage like pizza boxes, newspapers that were years old and empty wine bottles. I remember one house that had so many wine bottles that the floor began to sag in the columns job that were there to hold up the upstairs floor, was actually hanging from the ceiling. That took several days removing all of the wine bottles and performing an adequate Compulsive Hoarding Restoration.
  3. Some houses had so much garbage in it, that some rooms you could not enter they were completely full from floor to ceiling with just items that they've received in the mail or brought home and just never threw away. There were some Compulsive Hoarding Restoration assignments that the refrigerator that was so packed full of stuff, items that were rotted away and the refrigerator obviously hadn't been cleaned out in years. Milk that had started to solidify, past the point of just curdling and other food items that looked like they were starting to grow hair.
  4. I've been in some garages that had car parts stacked against the wall precariously making a dangerous situation and the peculiar part was that they didn't own a car. On these jobs really make sure that we would protect ourselves wearing those disposable one-piece suits not knowing what we could be getting into. We would always wear respirators on our Compulsive Hoarding Restoration so we wouldn't breathe and any particles such as mold or other materials that could become airborne. In most cases there is a layer of dust over every item that either has to be cleaned or thrown away. Some of these Compulsive Hoarding Restoration jobs had so much animal feces and urine that we would have to wear gloves and eye protection to minimize the exposure from bacteria.
