DEALING WITH WATER DAMAGE When should clean up begin? Clean up should begin as soon as it is safe to return to the building. Prompt and proper clean up is important for your health. Flood waters can contain microorganisms (such as bacteria, molds, and viruses), raw sewage, dead animals, Contaminated Sewage Water and other debris. 

It is importantto remove such debris and/or contaminated materials from your home quickly.If materials are not cleaned properly Contaminated Sewage Water or discarded promptly, poor air quality can result.Microorganisms can contaminate indoor air and cause respiratory problems and allergies.They can continue to damage building materials long after the flood waters recede.

How can homeowners avoid problems?Remove water:Pump, sweep, or drain water from the building. Remove tree branches, garbage, mud Contaminated Sewage Water and other debris. It is a good idea to remove furniture, carpets and other household items that were wet or damaged by the floodwaters. These items may have been affected with mold or mildew from high humidity even if they were not in direct contact with flood waters.

Fabric may be washed with detergent and hot water.
