Crawl Space Drying >> Crawlspace Water Damage

You may not be aware how critical it is to have your crawlspace dry and free of moisture. All kinds of health issues can arise from having a crawlspace with the potential of being wet and having the possibility of growing mold. Ear, nose and throat problems, lung infections, asthma and other infections can be the result of a damp Crawlspace Water Damage . With the moisture that brings the mold could damage the supports under your home or can be inviting vermin to live in the crawlspace.

  1. First, it's a good idea to determine the cause of the moisture. It could be a crack in the foundation, a leak coming from the roof, or poor landscaping where the rain runoff goes toward the house and not away from it. Do your pipes run to the floor, you know, water pipes, drain pipes. If this is the case may be one of these pipes are leaking, to find out you’ll probably have to grab a flashlight and crawl underneath. Look for any water that’s dripping, then turn on the water in different parts of the house. Again go underneath and look for water dripping, if you find a leak you’ll have to determine if you can fix it yourself or hire a professional plumber/Crawlspace Water Damage.
  2. If the problem looks to be coming from outside, say the landscaping is forcing the water to run the wrong direction. Assess the situation, do you have the equipment, the manpower, the knowledge to make the proper corrections? Sometimes hiring a good landscaping firm is money well spent, any good landscaper should know the products and the techniques to keep the water away from your home and to keep your Crawlspace Water Damage.
  3. Say the problem is coming from the roof, somehow the water is getting through the shingles, down the walls, and into the Crawlspace Water Damage. Again, you have to ask the question, are you savvy enough to make the proper repairs, know how to use the best materials, to keep the rain out? Or is it a matter of not having a gutter installed under the eave, having a downspout connected to the gutter to divert the water away from the house. If you're not sure about how these things work a good roofing company would definitely know about the roof and should know about the gutters and downspouts.
  4. It's time to do some Crawlspace Water Damage, clean all the debris from the crawlspace, any loose pieces of cardboard, anything that mold can grow underneath of or critters to live in. Make sure the entire area is picked up, does your crawlspace have a chance for cross ventilation, if so set up some high velocity air moving fans. A dehumidifier set up in the right location will extract any water or moisture that's left behind. Run both of these for a good day and possibly two, give it a good chance to dry out. After the crawlspace is thoroughly dry, a moisture barrier, laying over the clean floor should be able to keep in the dampness out. And that's it for Crawlspace Water Damage.
