The reason this article is written was to provide direction in regards to the retrieval and restoration of extremely important documents and the data that might be water damaged or lost in an accident or disaster. When we say extremely important, we refer to any Structural Drying and/or data needed for the effective day-to-day operation of any business or institution. As for the reasons of this article, extremely important documents and data will be referred to as documents.

  1. Application of the requirements of this article will entirely depend on the kind of the reason of damage to Structural Drying. Reasons such as a leaking roof during a rainstorm or a broken plumbing water pipe generally result in contained water damage which is limited to an office, office suite or an entire floor of a office building. In cases of such contained damage, the supervisor(s) of the water or fire damaged unit(s) will be responsible for applying the retrieval process. Reasons like any fire or extremely severe weather most often result in more extensive water damage. In these cases, it is very possible that the national emergency procedure and safety guidelines will be activated.
  2. The requirements of the national emergency procedure and safety guidelines take superiority over the Structural Drying organization natural disaster preparedness article. When the national emergency procedure and safety guidelines is in effect, the documents organization natural disaster preparedness guidelines is to be initiated only when there has been clearance to enter the water or fire damaged building(s) and begin considering the damage to documents has been given. In all Structural Drying situations, the safety of the employees, residents and any other occupants is of the utmost priority. Fire damage or severe weather could cause extensive structural damage that renders an office building completely unsafe for work or occupancy.
  3. In the case of extensive flooding, the likelihood of electrical shock is present even when there is no real structural damage. Office personnel must not enter a water damaged building until it has been thoroughly inspected and considered safe for the return to work or at least occupancy. Electronic Data, like in this case, Structural Drying are upheld in an highly secured electronic arrangement and are to be stored on computerized network servers. These electronic documents shall include, but are not to be limited to the employees files, any interoffice transcripts, financial statements, human resource documents, e-mail, and web page files.
  4. Paper files, that include even with the use of electronic data base storage, there still remains a massive amount of other paper documents that are just as extremely important. These water damaged documents include but are not limited to, employee files, interoffice transcripts, financial statements, human resources documents and various other paper communications and orders that were made before the arrival of the extensive use of electronic data base storage. Also, there still exist many paper Structural Drying of an archival nature that, while may not necessarily be extremely important, but might be of great historical value to some institution.
