Electronic Restoration >> Structural Drying

There are lots of reasons that water may get into your electronic components, causing damage. If the component is powered up at the time the water is introduced to the electronic component, it may not be repairable. This is something that needs to be determined by a professional Structural Drying technician. However many electronic devices especially battery-operated, are salvageable if you do not try to use the device while wet.

  1. Your best bet is to make sure you always remove the battery as soon as possible and dry the Structural Drying device out. If you do not feel comfortable doing this yourself contact a professional technician. If the device is plugged into the wall using 110 current or above. You may want to set the circuit breaker off at the power panel to that device. Always safety first! After you have the circuit breaker off then go in and disconnect on the wall.
  2. Then take the Structural Drying device to a professional to have it dried out. If these devices are just unplug been stored in a garage or basement, it is very possible for mold to grow on these devices. If the device was operating when it got flooded by the water, it is most likely damage. Obviously would be better if the phone and never been submerged in water. But once that's happened there are a few things you can do. The Structural Drying procedure I'm going to explain works for the iPhone for as well as earlier models and iPod but unlike other electronic devices do not take these apart.
  3. If your iPod has been dropped into fresh water you may be in luck, while water can be distractive on delicate electronic devices it is better than a lot of other liquids that it could be dropped. Some of the worst liquids are soda pop or beer as these have sugar which leaves a Structural Drying residue that is hard to remove. Worse than these are chlorinated water such as swimming pools, salt or seawater as they cause massive corrosion inside the handset in a short period.
  4. Once you are satisfied that the logic board is cleaned and contacts also are cleaned, you may use the hairdryer on its coldest setting and dry the logic board. You may also want to place the device under a lamp, such as a desk lamp, to gently warm and further dry the cleaning fluid. Reassemble your device with and battery or one that is known to be good. If your Structural Drying device was totally submerged that you will probably need a new battery once you have your device assembled the real work of evaluating the damage began. Turn the device on and make sure that it functions as it did before it was flooded. Good luck.
