Often, following some sort of water damage like a burst pipe or a thunderstorm that has caused damage to a house or business allowing water to enter creating a Water Damage. This will require the restoration of the electronic equipment that's in the building back to its original state. There are certain procedures that must be followed for electronic technicians to give them the ability to make these repairs and to complete a restoration.

  1. When working with high-tech computer equipment, the condition of the contacts could be affected and the condition of the dielectric insulation capabilities of internal materials might be reduced. Furthermore, some molded case circuit breakers are usually equipped with electronic might trip units and the functioning of these trip units could be impaired. For fuses, the water affect the filler material and a Water Damage filler material will most likely degrade the insulation and interruption capabilities. Distribution assemblies will contain protective components together with the necessary support structures, the bus work, the wiring, electromechanical or electronic relays and meters.

Motor control centers will contain both control and protective components together with sensitive support structures, the buswork, and the wiring.
  3. The protective components are very critical to the safe operation of motor circuits and their important ability to protect these circuits is adversely affected by exposure to Water Damage , and is to the minerals and the particles which could be present in the water. For molded case circuit breakers, such water exposure can affect the overall operation of the mechanism through corrosion, through the presence of foreign particles, and through removal of synthetic and lubricants. The condition of the contacts might be affected and the dielectric insulation capabilities of internal materials may be reduced. Furthermore, some molded case circuit breakers are equipped with electronic trip units, and the functioning of these trip units couldbe impaired. For fuses, the water may affect the filler material.
  4. A damaged filler material will degrade the insulation and the interruption capabilities. Corrosion, loss of lubrication, and insulation quality could also be expected in contactors and starters. However, the solid-state motor controllers and many of those electromechanical contactors or starters with integral electronic circuitry might be more severely affected by Water Damage. Drives damaged by water can be remanufactured by the original manufacturer specs in some cases. Electronically controlled and solid state contactors and starter components containing many semiconductors and transistors with overload relays that have molded case circuit breakers and molded case switches.
